Taconic Cyclones Battle to the Finish in Local Softball Tournament
April 20, 2008 -- The Taconic Cyclones partnered with the Empire State Huskies to host a one-day age 14-and-under softball tournament in Shrub Oak on Sunday. Twelve terrific teams traveled from around the region to play a three-game, best record seeding round, hoping to earn a spot at the championship game. In addition to the hosts, the tournament included the Long Island Riptide, Long Island Bandits, Morris County Belles, Hudson Valley Express, Montgomery Devils, Ulster Phillies, Purple Storm, Hudson Valley Hurricanes and two Brewster Rockets teams. In a testament to the quality of the competition, no team went home without a loss. The Cyclones entered the championship game as the top seed after a 3-3 tie with the Brewster Rockets, a 5-3 win over the Long Island Riptide, and a 2-1 victory over rhe Hudson Valley Express. The #2 seed Riptide got the better of the Cyclones in a rematch for the fourth and final game of the day, taking home the championship. Cyclones coaches Amy Girvalo, Charlie Raiano and Gary Lischinsky beamed with pride nonetheless as our exhausted local all-stars were each called up in turn to receive yet another earned trophy for the mantlepiece.
